Publication Info

Shoe Dog is a personal memoir written by Phil Knight, the co-founder of Nike. It was published on April 26, 2016 by Simon and Schuster Publishing, and is a #1 New York Times Bestseller.

Brief Summary

Shoe Dog follows the life and journey of Phil Knight as he sought to build what is now an international, multi-billion dollar company. This book primarily focuses on the early days of the company, starting with its humble beginnings as a distributor for the Japanese shoe company Onitsuka.

The book is broken up into years rather than chapters. I believe that this serves the book well helping the reader to follow Phil in his journey of creating this company.

I know this summary is rather short, but there is not much more I can say. The book follows Mr. Knight's life and journey, not much else.

Review

I thoroughly enjoyed reading through this book. As an employee of Nike, I saw this as an opportunity to learn more about the company that I work for. While the book does not shy away from every single detail, it presents them in such a way as to keep the reader engaged and interested in them.

Shoe Dog is a great book about one of the most recognized brands in the world today. It is amazing to look back and see the vision that Phil Knight had. This book helps to show that anything is possible if you have a dream and enough determination to make it happen. If you are interested how Nike became one of the largest brands today then this is the book for you.
